About Brie

My name is Brie Ellard-Jedlic. I am a graduate of the University of Western Ontario where I obtained a Master of Arts degree in Kinesiology – Sport Psychology. My sport background is very diverse. I was involved in gymnastics, swimming, and diving at the provincial level as well as rowing at the national and international level. I was a five-time member of the Canadian Women’s National Rowing Team, during which time I worked with a sport psychologist and learned firsthand the benefits of mental training and its subsequent effect on performance.

My background in sport as an athlete and coach, in addition to my background as a mental trainer, has given me a great understanding and empathy towards the motivations, needs and challenges of my clients. As a result, I have a tremendous passion for helping aspiring athletes, students and performers of all levels achieve their potential in sport and in life.

Online Training

This new initiative allows athletes to work through a comprehensive mental training program online. The athletes work through the program at their own pace, submitting worksheets weekly (to promote and enhance time management skills, organization, responsibility and accountability) and there is continued correspondence throughout (email, texting, phone, skype).

This basic mental skills training program has been designed to help the athlete/ performer/ student equip themselves with the necessary skills to be able to improve their self-awareness, motivation and commitment as well as learn to apply various mental skills in order to overcome obstacles, maintain composure, and achieve a higher level of confidence and consistency in their performance endeavours.

The program cost is $500/ individual, and covers the following 10 mental skills in a “workbook” format:

  • Self-Awareness
  • Goal-Setting
  • Mental Imagery
  • Self-Talk and Negative Thought-Stopping
  • Arousal Control (relaxation and energizing techniques)
  • Attention Control (focus and re-focusing strategies)
  • Emotional Control
  • Mental Toughness
  • Ideal Performance State
  • Pre-Competition and Competition routines

Testimonials

Jackie Hatherly

“Brie has helped me understand the importance of mental preparation for training and racing. Working with her on my mental skills has prepared me to overcome any situation I face in competition, and enabled me to achieve my goals.”

Emma Bandol

“I had the opportunity to work with Brie leading up to Ironman Canada 2009. I had raced this specific course 3 times previously and trained diligently, but I knew I needed to do some mental preparation. Athletes face many issues that can destroy an entire year’s preparation. When you’re out there for 11hrs you need to be equipped with some mental tactics that can help you push through and dig deep. Brie taught me how to harness the power of confidence, focus and composure during this difficult event. I have since worked with Brie prior to my races and she has helped me develop several mental skills that have come in very handy during the toughest training days and also on race day. Since I started to work with Brie, I have had personal best performances and have even been able to use her mental game strategies and adapt them to every aspect of my life. Thank you Brie!”

“Not sure we can put into words the impact Brie has had on our team. We know the mental toughness and mental skills we practice and utilize are within ourselves, but the guidance Brie provides has been invaluable. She is not only a trainer, a teacher, a confidence builder, and a confidant…she is also a friend and a teammate we couldn’t be without. Her work with the team directly correlates to our team’s success at the 2011 National Women’s Curling Championship (1st place) and World Women’s Curling Championship (2nd place).”

“I have been dancing for 20 years with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet as a principal dancer and was recently faced with some very important shows…my retirement shows. With guidance from Brie I was able to walk on stage calm, confident and focused. These shows were so incredibly important and I feel some of the best in my 20 years on stage. I experienced performances that only happen a handful of times in a dancer’s career. I could not have done it without Brie’s knowledge and direction…I only wish I found her sooner. Brie, I am forever grateful!”

“I recently made my concert debut as a solo pianist. After years of training in university, I still had not mastered my arousal control prior to a major performance. With Brie I have found a routine leading up to these performances that truly works for me. I am performing the best I have in years—confident, focused, and meeting my potential. Working with Brie has given me the courage to strive for my personal best. I will take these skills and continue to grow and develop as a musician in this new and promising chapter of my career.”

“Our team has had the pleasure of working with Brie for the past 2 seasons. Brie has been instrumental in our success as a team. Brie helped us face the challenge of playing at home as host of this year’s National Championship. Brie worked on not only our team chemistry but also helping us maintain focus and playing in the moment. As a coach I noticed a major difference in our athletes’ mental preparation and ability to face challenges. Most importantly the players trusted, respected and enjoyed working with Brie. This is a relationship that will continue in the future”

“Working with Brie helped motivate and bring me back to the love of sport. She not only gave advice, she also provided me with tools to overcome the obstacles I was dealing with. Brie is easy to open up too and gives great perspective & insight. Having been in sports herself, Brie knows the pressures we place upon ourselves. Working with her has greatly impacted where I am today.”

“I have been a professional ballet dancer struggling with stage fright for several years now, but with the skills that Brie has helped me obtain, I have been able to become a more confident and able dancer. Good to Great Mental Training has helped me find new enjoyment in what I am doing every day and has made it so I can fully experience my limited time on stage.”

“Brie is someone who really understands the pressures athletes face. She has been able to help me in and out of sport, whether it was issues in regards to training and learning new skills or struggles in school, she was someone I could always talk to and count on. Specifically she was able to help me overcome fears about learning new skills or skills I had crashed on through; mental imagery/ visualization, positive self talk, self-review via videos and the use of practice logs. She has been someone who has helped me through many tough times including recently transferring out of the world of sport and into the world of non-sport. I can honestly say that I don’t know where I would be without her. She is a fantastic person and I definitely recommend anyone and everyone who is struggling with something in their sport to go talk to her because she can help you with whatever issues you’re dealing with”

“From a young age, I have had the privilege of working with Brie.  Brie has helped me to overcome fears and face many challenges throughout my years of swimming. The opportunities I’ve gotten and the goals I’ve achieved in my sport would not have been possible without her patience and motivation. Brie not only listens, but she understands what it’s like to be an athlete. She has watched me grow and accomplish more than I ever thought I would. For her help, I am forever grateful”.

Kimberley & Gordon Asmundson

“Being a good parent is challenging enough; but, when you add on the extra layer of raising and supporting an elite athlete, it can be more demanding than you ever anticipated. A young athlete has to be mentally tough to compete. As our daughter matured, we could see how the mental aspects of competition were negatively impacting her performance and playing games with her self-confidence. Although our education, training, sports and performance backgrounds allowed us to help her navigate through some of the difficult struggles she faced as an athlete, we also recognized that she needed more than our guidance.

Brie started mental training sessions with Aleiia at a very young age and has continued her work with her throughout her athletic career. Now a successful rower recruited by a Division 1 NCAA program, Aleiia continues to apply the skills and training Brie has taught her, not just to athletics, but also in other aspects of her life. These tools have helped Aleiia develop into a mature, positive, motivated, and successful young woman and athlete.

Parents of elite athletes always want what is best for their child, and are often unsure how to make that happen within a sports environment. Having access to someone like Brie has paid great dividends in our efforts to raise a healthy, mentally tough, self-assured athlete.
